Interconnected Ecosystems: Expanding Horizons

ACH Annual Symposium | February 22-23, 2024

From a medical perspective the past two decades have seen an explosion of knowledge about how experience shapes the brain and the formation of the environments we inhabit. The automated ways of our being are represented by each individual part of our brain and our ability to identify where it rests. As each part interacts or mixes with the natural elements of the world and the anatomy of our bodies, we are awakened to the meshing of our neural nets to create a stronger connection and more meaning. Join ACH’s Care Team as we work with Out-of-School Time Leaders, Nurses, Researchers, Psychiatrists and Psychologists, to co-design a first of its kind series of online events to examine the caring nature of “The Interconnected Ecosystem” we know as camp.

Part 2 of a series of 3 events exploring Interconnected Ecosystems

Keynote

Title: The Interconnectedness of All Living Things

Presenter: Payton Hoegh

As beings, each of us have an innate connection to all living things. Studies show people are healthiest when they are enmeshed in community and friendships, furthermore, our minds are stimulated and balanced when we are participating with something larger than ourselves. How do we deepen our relationship with place and harness the elements of the natural world to improve our programs? What would it look like if we co-created with nature to establish a culture of care. This session will expand our view on the spaces we cultivate. Join us on an explorative journey about nature and health.

Learning Challenges and Inclusivity in Summer Programming

Presenter:  Youth Presentation by Jamora Arroyo-Jefferson and Zach Rosen

A key component to professional learning is being able to hear direclty from the constituents you serve. Dyslexia, Dyscalculia, ADHD and OCD are all still diagnoses connected to underlying behaviors impacting the well-being of those we care for and the programs we design. We all want to see self-efficacy, growth, and learning in our work, but are we willing to make the necessary changes young people long to see? Join us for an interactive session that will offer insight into those various learning challenges and stories directly from the young people we work for.
